P036 Rapid oscillatory ventilation seen during positive airway pressure titration studies: A case series

چکیده

Abstract We have observed a phenomenon in some patients undergoing positive airway pressure implement/titration studies our sleep lab, characterised by periods of extremely high respiratory rates up to 80 breaths/min which appear be device triggered. These episodes occur during central apnoea and last 1.5-2.0 minutes. A possible related has been reported case series 4 published the Journal Clinical Sleep Medicine 2018 (Gupta et al), however this was using different CPAP were significantly lower than what we observed. Apart from this, there are no reports literature that consistent with observations made lab. Correspondence vendor suggested due rare state motor control system maintains correct mask circuit may influenced lab not vendor’s proprietary heated tubing system. In addition, incidence rate is said low at 0.00087%, although already least 5 cases 6 months August 2021 February 2022. Our objective present inform broader community unique observations.

Setting positive end-expiratory pressure during jet ventilation to replicate the mean airway pressure of oscillatory ventilation.

BACKGROUND High-frequency ventilation can be delivered with either oscillatory ventilation (HFOV) or jet ventilation (HFJV). Traditional clinician biases may limit the range of function of these important ventilation modes. We hypothesized that (1) the jet ventilator can be an accurate monitor of mean airway pressure (P (aw)) during HFOV, and (2) a mathematical relationship can be used to deter...

Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure Ventilation

Over the past few decades, invasive positive pressure ventilation, usually applied via an endotracheal tube, has been the standard treatment for acute respiratory failure [1–3]. However, intubation and mechanical ventilation is associated with significant morbidity, including upper airway trauma and infections [4–7]; indeed, it is the single most important predisposing factor for nosocomial pne...

A Comparison between Nasal Intermittent Positive Pressure Ventilation and Nasal Continuous Positive Airway Pressure Ventilation in the Treatment of Neonatal Respiratory Distress Syndrome

Background: Nasal intermittent positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) is a non-invasive ventilatory mode, which delivers mechanical ventilation via nasal tubes or prongs. The present study was conducted to compare the efficacy of NIPPV and nasal continuous positive airway pressure ventilation (NCPAP) in reducing the need for intubation in preterm infants with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS)....

Reflux during positive pressure ventilation via the laryngeal mask airway?

Sir,—We read with interest the pilot study by Valentine, Stakes and Bellamy [1] comparing lower oesophageal pH changes in patients managed with either the laryngeal mask airway (LMA) or tracheal tube during intermittent positive pressure ventilation (IPPV). However, we suggest that the following factors in their study design may have had an influence on their results. (1) The authors probably u...

Effect of airway pressure on lumbar epidural pressure during positive pressure ventilation

BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to measure lumbar epidural pressure (EP) during the insertion of a Tuohy needle under general anesthesia and to evaluate the influence of airway pressure on EP. METHODS Lumbar EP was measured directly through a Tuohy needle during intermittent positive pressure ventilation in fifteen patients. Mean and peak EP were recorded after peak inspiratory press...
